Ganga Mahotsava (Dev Dipawali) In Varanasi

Time: From evening to mid night

Place: Ganga Ghat of Varanasi (Bank of ganga River).

There is an old tradition of celebrating Dev Dipawali with pump and show in Varanasi. Bharatmilap of Natimili, Nakkataiya of Chetganj, Nagnathaiya of Lakkhi Mela are very famous. For few years Dev Dipawali has also been famous as Lakkhi Mela. On the day from Assi to the Varuna River the stamps of the ghat are decorated with Diya on the full moon day of kartik purnima. Dev Dipawali is celebrated at Panchganga Ghat along with all the Ganga ghats (Bank of Ganga river) on the full moon day of Kartik Purnima. But the new beginning of dev Dipawali started from the nearby ghat of Panchganga known as Balaji Ghat that is now identified in the world for its own features. Dev Dipawali collects a large number of tourists from various parts of the country. Every year Dev Dipawali is celebrated on Kartik Purnima. In this year 2010 it will be celebrated on 21 Nov (Kartik Purnima). On this date god descend on earth.

In Hindu methodology it is believed that lord rejoined devas on this day after leaving king Bali. Devas celebrated his arrival in jubilation as Dev Dipawali.

On this day Tulsi Vivah (Marriage of Tulsi with Lord) is also celebrated. On this day in morning devotees do the bath in Ganga River called Kartik Snan and in evening they lightening the Ganga Ghats. Ganga Aarati is also a very grand events organized on this day but it is daily celebrated in evening to pray the Maa Ganga.

On this day a cultural program “Ganga Mahotsava” organized on Ganga Ghat.

Subah a Banaras

Subah-E-Banaras (Morning of Varanasi) and Shaam-E-Awadh (Evening of Lucknow) are supposed to be two of the best attractive scene of the world. If you want to see the beauty of the morning no place other than Varanasi will please you. The Sun appears in the sky in crimson color and the devotees take dips in the Ganges River with the reverberation Har Har Gange. One to all the temples sends out the different types of mantras and sound of the bell. Even large number of foreigners also come on the ghat and enjoys the rising sun. The devotees, after bathing in the Ganga River, are seem under the wooden umbrella of pandas for roli, chandan and rakshasutra (a components of worship). This is the seen of Subah-E-Banaras. This seen is rare in the world. Perhaps this is the reason, even the foreigners are seen on the ghat capturing the scene.
